Memories of Tommy Smith of the Old Bog Road, Aghaloora
He always made us so happy to see him. And he left us so sad to see him go.
We always had a special place in our hearts for him.
One so kind and gentlemanly
A passion for all things creative shone through
And a gentle wit and forté in philosophy.
I wish I could have got to know him better.
He seemed so true hearted.
A man of depth.
Who considered the world wholly.
But he loved his hometown charms the most.
I remember sitting outside with him and Nicky on fine summer days.
And basking in their intellect
.
Renowned writers were quoted like confetti.
They always asked me to show them the book I had read on the bus up.
Because it would usually be of a political hue they were in favour of.
Tommy would say it was great that I was reading such books and I should keep it up.
On first seeing my paintings he always said I should do stained glass.
Insightful as he was he was right.
I feel lucky to have to been blessed by his company now.
