I think there is a major disconnect in modern life. We are disconnected from the very food we eat and the natural world. Our ancestors until recently ate the food provided by the land upon which they lived. Every bite connected them with gods and ancestors in a land full of mythology and meaning where every rock and tree was alive with an internal beauty. Compare this with how we treat our modern landscape. It is nothing but a resource for us to exploit out of greed. Nothing more. To many people giving meaning to the lives of trees and animals is soft, silly and romantic. We are disconnected from our loved ones by the pressures of careers and feel forever seperate in a culture where things of real depth are not discussed. We live on stereotypes and shallow concepts forever hooked on the 24 hour news cycle.
Please give up on the machine. Just breath. Go into nature and enjoy our only true inheritance which is the indomitable human spirit and the rare jewel that is Life in an otherwise lifeless galaxy.
Our ancestors had real lasting relationships with everything they came across. They thanked every plant and animal they ate. The Australian aborigines have a special dance, song, mythology and rituals for everything they eat. (I wish to do paintings to illustrate how this could relate to Irish species) They have the utmost respect for life. Their whole landscape is alive with meaning. Compare this with the average persons experience of an obliterated landscape where there is only the tiniest of natural wonders left at the farmers whim, perhaps a primrose or two if we're lucky.
